America’s best-selling SUV for the past two decades has just been unveiled as an all-new fifth generation! The 2017 CR-V will go on sale this winter and has a slew of new features, including:

  • Bold exterior styling updates like a sharp frontend, attention-grabbing headlights with LED DRLs and dual exhaust.
  • An available touchscreen 7-inch Display Audio Interface now has the much-requested volume knob and new Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System.
  • A 1.5-liter DOHC direct-injected turbocharged 4-cylinder, capable of producing 190 horsepower, will be available on EX trims and higher.
  • Honda’s Sensing suite of safety technologies, which includes Collision Mitigation Braking with Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation, Adaptive Cruise Control and more, will now be standard on EX trims and above.

Exterior

The body of the CR-V is longer, taller and wider than its predecessor. This gives rear passengers 40.4 inches of legroom (the best in its class) and the rear cargo volume has increased by two cubic feet. A few never-before-available features include hands-free power lift gate, rain-sensing windshield wipers, auto high beams with high beam support (HSS) and more.

Interior

Upgraded materials have been added throughout the top-in-class interior, like a soft-touch instrument panel and finely-stitched seats. Additional available features include remote engine start, dual-zone climate control, heated side mirrors, an electric parking brake, rear USB charging ports and more.

Powertrain and Performance

In addition to the all-new engine choice, a first-ever Honda Automatic Shutter Grille system lowers aerodynamic drag for added fuel efficiency. Larger aluminum alloys wheels and narrower A-pillars increase visibility.

Safety

Back in 2015, the Honda Sensing safety suite gave the CR-V an advantage over its competition, and it ultimately captured the 2015 Motor Trend SUV of the Year award. Now that technology is standard on 2017 EX models and above, which gives drivers the comfort of Collision Mitigation Braking with Forward Collision Warning, Adaptive Cruise Control and more. Given this suite and Honda’s next-generation ACE body structure, the 2017 CR-V is expected to get the highest safety ratings from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).

Production

Honda has invested $52 million and added 100 new employees to its Greensburg, Indiana plant to join two other plants in North America that already produce the CR-V. This will allow Honda to increase production and quality over some of its competitors. Expect to get more information as the December release date gets closer.
