Do you know Honda make hybrids? If not, don't worry. A lot of drivers, even Honda enthusiasts, don't. But, it's definitely something to be aware of, especially given today's steep gas prices.

There is, of course, the Insight - Honda's first hybrid vehicle, which launched in 2000. There is also a hybrid variant of the Honda Civic, which launched in 2003. The hybrid we want to focus on here, however, is the CR-Z, which made history when it launched just this year. The Honda CR-Z sport hybrid is the first six-speed production hybrid ever made!

Honda designed the CR-Z, using advanced IMA Hybrid technology and with three distinctive driving modes: ECON, Sport, and Normal. In Honda's words, it's what you might call a "responsible indulgence."1

Taking the element of indulgence a few giant steps further, Honda's racing arm, Mugen, has set upon transforming the already peppy CR-Z into a hotter sports car yet. They have, in fact, already unveiled the concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, across the pond.

The concept, officially coined, the Mugen CR-Z RR embodies ultimate sportiness and will hopefully, if everything goes according to plan, champion the hybrid coupe line.

Given the suffix RR, the Mugen tuned CR-Z is fitted with a turbocharged engine and boasts nearly 200 horsepower (hp) (as much as the GTU Scirocco). The exterior has gained a suite of signature RR parts as well, including, side skirts, rear wing and 18-inch rims, new bumpers, and carbon fiber trim designed to enhance the car's fiery orange exterior paint color.

When will the Mugen CR-Z concept go to production? At this time, Mugen and Honda have not set an official date. However, we expect it won't be long until the powerful concept is given the green light. And when it does, the previously unveiled Mugen CR-Z concept will likely be in tow as well.

In addition to the Honda CR-Z, Honda has also introduced a hybrid Civic variant into its lineup
