Honda has very high standards for green motoring. Maybe you've heard the phrase "near-future technology" used in association with plug-in vehicles should be at least vaguely familiar. Essentially, Honda believes the ultimate goal of green motoring is a selection of mass produced hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, such as its very own FCX Clarity - the world's first production fuel cell vehicle available to lease in the U.S. and Japan since 2008.
In design, the Honda EV Concept strongly resembles the language used for Honda's upcoming production battery electric vehicle, the Fit EV, which will be introduced to Japan - and yes, even the U.S. - next year. It's powered by an all-new plug-in hybrid platform that showcases Honda's next-generation, two-motor hybrid technology slated to debut in 2012. And, co-starring with Honda's new EV Concept is a prototype Honda charging station that is both intuitive and easy to use.
Despite its high standards, Honda understands that consumers aren't ready to adopt hydrogen fuel cell cars on a grand scale. Thus, the Japanese automaker has begun to unveil its EV Concept, starting at the Geneva International Motor Show 2011.
The Honda EV Concept is expected to get a competitive 100 miles per charge using the US EPA LA4 city cycle. The driving range can be optimized by the use of a cutting-edge 3-mode electric drive system, adapted from the 2011 Honda CR-Z hybrid. Plus, the Honda EV Concept will offer several interactive coaching systems specially designed to assist the driver maximize battery power.
