Honda is in Las Vegas and SEMA with a dozen CR-Z cars in various stages of tune, many from in-house divisions like Mugen and Honda Performance Development. The other half are from independent tuners invited by Honda.
Accessory kits for the new CR-Z will include "a full body kit, front grille, rear wing spoiler, 17-inch XJ aluminum wheels, sport mats, black aluminum shift knob, and billet aluminum oil-filler cap. The painted parts will be color matched to each body, and purchasers will receive a numbered special-edition plaque."
Honda also displayed a CR-Z with Honda Genuine Accessories, including 17-inch alloy wheels; side, front lip and tailgate spoilers; rear diffuser; illuminated door-sill trim and an interior armrest.
HPD showed off two versions of the new hybrid, including one for the street - the CR-Z Hybrid R Concept - and one for the track - the HPD CR-Z Racer. Both have been fitted with a turbocharged IMA hybrid system, delivering a combined 200 horsepower and 175 pound-feet of torque.
Honda provided CR-Z vehicles to six independent tuners, who were asked to "push the limits to improve fuel economy and performance with their builds." Among the vehicles on display are the Bisimoto Engineering 2011 CR-Z, DSO Eyewear 2011 CR-Z Sport Hybrid Tuner, Eibach Springs 2011 CR-Z, Fortune Motorsports/Tjin Edition Samurai Gold 2011 Honda CR-Z, Konig Wheels 2011 CR-Z and Wraptivo 2011 CR-Z Type-F Concept.
Of these projects, the one created by Bisimoto Engineering is the most intriguing. This is thanks to its turbocharged hybrid powertrain churning out more than 533 horsepower but "retains the drivability, reliability and eco-friendly nature of the original engine," according to the tuner.
