Three new Honda models that Norris Honda offers to drivers in the greater Baltimore area could soon have new production homes right here in the United States. Currently, Honda assembles most of its lineup in North America, but still imports a few models from Japan. However, those few models that do still make a trip across the Pacific are starting to cost more money than they sell for, and moving their production Stateside might be the best long-term fix.
So which models will be making the move?
They would be the Honda CR-Z, Fit, and Insight. But, before any official move can be made, Honda first needs to construct a factory, find reputable parts suppliers, and hire workers to assemble the vehicles. In other words, it's a process that will take time.Another big problem that every automaker faces any time the production of a vehicle is moved is he perceived quality. While Honda has shattered the myth that foreign automaker can't assemble vehicles domestically, the fact that the parts and assembly will be changing might still be a point of concern to some. Of course, like always, that's something that can easily be corrected with a test drive.
Honda hasn't given a specific timeline for when the big production move will happen, but the company has said that the current exchange rate of 80 yen per U.S. dollar is serving as serious motivation. And with that, we invite you to stay tuned to our blog for more on this exciting news.
